Hillside, Redbrook, Near Monmouth, Monmouthshire NP25

Description
Description - An inspired, timber-clad extension and stylish remodelling have turned this 1950's dormer bungalow into a spacious and desirable contemporary family home, with iconic design features.

Benefitting from a beautiful setting in the friendly Wye Valley village of Redbrook, the unique, split-level property sits in terraced gardens and grounds of approximately 1.24 acres, extending up the hillside above the property into a perimeter of natural woodland.

"It's a beautiful light and airy house with spectacular views and versatile accommodation and it's been an idyllic place to live and bring up children, " says the vendor, adding that the village of Redbrook is also special. "The village is a vibrant community right on the river, where you can go canoeing or paddleboarding from the village green. There are two pubs, a village shop, a good primary school and lots of local events."

Step inside:-

"We were inspired by a passion for Mid-century Modern design and there are also some Danish Modern Movement influences." This guiding design aesthetic has been the blueprint for the renovation, extension and thorough re-imagining of the original bungalow.

Off the airy, ceramic-tiled entrance hall is a ground-floor sitting room, which could equally be used as a comfortable home office. The room has modern parquet flooring, there is a wood burning stove at one end and a bay window with a window seat gives views down the Wye Valley.

The entrance hall leads through to an inner hallway where large, wooden built-in cloak cupboards make an attractive feature. Off this hall are a utility room and three double bedrooms. One of these, the master bedroom, has fitted wardrobes and an en-suite with a walk-in shower and oak vanity unit. There is also a family bathroom on this floor and a WC just inside the front door. The bathrooms (there's another upstairs) are all stylishly presented and decorated in a Mid-century Modern colour palette with hexagonal tiles on the floor and porcelain brick tiles on the walls.

The fabulous, architect-designed extension, recently added on the hillside at the back of the property, is accessed up a stairway from the main entrance hall. The light and airy open-plan kitchen/living/dining space has a sloping, pine-clad ceiling and large picture windows which take advantage of the views. At one end of the room is a sleek, premium quality Leicht kitchen, with a comprehensive range of high-end integrated appliances. The white hexagonal tiling along the splashback complements the overall design aesthetic and the carefully selected light fittings in this stunning room comprise a Mid-century-style Sputnik chandelier in the dining area and, in the living area, two iconic Saucer Bubble Pendants by George Nelson for Herman Miller.

From the dining area, double doors open to a paved terrace along the back of the house. "For entertaining, there is nothing better than sliding open the doors to the patio. It makes such a great space for fine weather barbeques and socialising." In colder weather, the white, Jotul log burner at one end of the room provides a cosy warmth in the relaxed living area.

An open plan hallway joins the extension to a room in the eaves of the original bungalow. This multi-purpose room has engineered oak flooring and Velux windows giving valley views to the front of the property. There is eaves storage at either end of the room. "It's a versatile space on the same level as the kitchen. We have used it as an office and a children's snug but it lends itself to being used as a bedroom or guest bedroom as there is an ensuite bathroom next to it".
