"I have lived in this property for 10 years, before that we lived in London for 48 years. We found life in London too hectic and crowded plus we wanted to be closer to our family who live in the Colchester area. But required a property which still allowed me to commute into London on the days when I was still working.
All the neighbours are very pleasant and because we live on this quiet Lane we tend to know most of the neighbours and there is an atmosphere of quiet and private but caring and helpful when required.

We were attracted to this property because of its unique design, It is an architecturally designed single storey house which was spacious, light and has wonderful views from the rear and in a very quiet area. This lovely countryside house allows me to have lots of open space with light flooding in from the south facing garden. The overriding attraction was its light filled quiet atmosphere without feeling cut off from others.

My own children were grown up when I moved into this house but it has welcomed all my grandchildren and their parents at any one time without feeling overcrowded. The grandchildren have always had their own rooms on visits and that remains the same today when they visit. There are many families on the Lane and the children mainly go to either the very good primary schools in either Birch or Layer, or to private secondary schools, plus the outstanding grammar schools in Colchester for either boys or girls. All the private schools run buses from the village to the schools including Ipswich High. This is an ideal family house.

I commuted weekly to London Liverpool Street. Colchester mainline station is approximately 20 minutes away depending on the time of day, and with very regular fast trains into London it makes for easy commuting. This house is also approximately 15 minutes to the A12 with quick access onto the M25, A14.

I have made no structural changes to the main house at all. It remains as it was built in 1986. The major changes have been cosmetic, with such things as new windows throughout, new fascias down pipes and gutters. New bathrooms, and new fittings in the kitchen have all been made. The major change has been in the garden which was overgrown and mistreated both back and front. They have all been re- designed and replanted including new fences throughout.

My favourite room is the atrium. It is flooded with light, has large windows and it overlooks the garden and fields behind the house. It is the room used mostly by all who visit. Whatever time of year there is always changes to be seen either on the farmland behind me, or by the wildlife which thrives.

This house has seen many wonderful parties, through the year. Murder mystery parties at Christmas with 25 people taking place, or the garden parties in the summer, including live music. (neighbours invited of course). It has even hosted our Village Lunch when 35 people were seated with ease!"
