Location & History

Lock House at Gauxholme Fold was built circa 1850, when the local area was a thriving community and this was an important intersection of Bacup Road and Rochdale Road. The canal was built in the early 1800s and the railways followed in the 1830s with the construction of the historic Gauxholme viaduct and Grade II Listed cast iron bridge. The industrial heritage of the area is still evident, and some light industrial works remain in the area and close to the property. However, today this is a much quieter and picturesque setting. The canal tow path provides scenic walks towards Walsden or into Todmorden centre. There are also several hillside walks within the vicinity for the more adventurous. Todmorden town centre and railway station are within approximately 1 mile and the local Shade Primary school is just around the corner.
