description
Mushroom Green is a Hamlet in the Renowned Dudley Wood conservation area. Usually associated with traditional chain makers cottages the area was originally said to be used for nail making as early as the 18th Century on what was common land and part of Pensnett Chase. Under the closures act of the 18th Century the land was passed over to Viscount Dudley and the workers allowed to pay a rent in return for their squatter status being annulled. By the end of the 19th Century nearly every property had a working chain makers shop next to it, although most of these have gone today. Despite this the area is protected and has a feel and charm of its own that can only be attributed to its historical past.
