A beautiful terraced Victorian house, still yellow brick fronted with the original stained glass front door, ready to move in yet offering fantastic potential to extend up into the loft or further to the rear (like many on the street have).

Situated almost half way up Killearn Road, bordering the tree lined ‘Culverley Green (Catford) Conservation Area’ (with the most expensive houses in Catford!), Killearn is in the ‘cottage style terraced section’ of the Victorian ‘Corbett Estate’ - a luxury private development built between 1885-1911 by Archibald Corbett, mainly consisting of large family houses.

Corbett developed the estate after purchasing 278 acres of land from the Earl of St. Germans, intending to take advantage of the new railway station (Hither Green), which he considered vital for the links to Central London.

Many of the estate’s road names are Scottish reflecting Corbett’s ancestry. Corbett included shopping parades (like the popular one only 350 metres from this house on Sandhurst Road), churches, schools & recreation grounds, and even donated a library (on Torridon Road) in 1907 – all of which are still there.

Family butchers (David Oakman & Sons) on Muirkirk (rated 5* on Google) as well as a local organic shop and deli called 'Good Food' on Sandhurst are an example of the traditions continuing.

Corbett was a ‘temperance reformer’, and these facilities reflect his wish to establish a sound & balanced community environment, even insisting on an embargo on the sale of alcohol (so no rowdy old man pubs!) – but some cool and funky ones like ‘Ninth Life’ are in Catford Centre.

The current family owners have lived at the house 19 years (since June 2003) and raised their two boys here who have since flown the nest. It’s now time to consider a move outside of London and clear the mortgage.

The space on the ground floor includes two generous original reception rooms, a downstairs bathroom & an extended kitchen at the rear – which could be made larger like others have done… for example 86 Glenfarg Road (which added bifold doors, modernised and removed a bedroom upstairs to make it a 2 bed with upstairs bathroom and downstairs utility) which sold for £645,000 in March.

Upstairs consists of 3 bedrooms with one defined master, one modest double and one single bedroom – currently a home office. The huge loft is accessed from the landing and has obvious extension potential, again shown by many neighbours having done it.

Catford or Catford Bridge Stations are extremely convenient - Catford Bridge for the Lewisham to London Bridge line and Catford links into Blackfriars and has a selection of fast trains to London Victoria.

Catford Centre is also part of a regeneration plan, and is now one of the most talked about capital appreciation ‘hotspots’ of London now that Lewisham has been named ‘London’s Borough of Culture’ - which Catford has played a strong role in.
