Description

Tucked away in a hilltop setting, Cairngall Cottage offers a truly magical and unique home. Within walking distance of Stroud, the property is full of character and period features. Built in 1854, the former coach house, stables and cottages have been converted into a substantial family home. Lovingly restored by the current vendors, the home exudes a stylish charm with comfortingly thick walls alongside tasteful updates including new double glazed windows throughout.

The main glazed entrance opens into a spacious kitchen with ample room for a large dining table, ceramic tiled floor and shaker style units painted in a rich grey hue. The house has a wonderful sense of flow with all 4 ground floor reception rooms linked in a circular route, interspersed with a fabulous tessellated tiled floor and spacious hallway. There is an open fire place in the snug and a wood burning stove in the day room, offering lovely focal points to both rooms. The main sitting room benefits from a fabulous full height window, formerly the main coach house entrance. A ground floor cloakroom with walk-in shower leads off the day room plus a large larder cupboard which doubles up as a utility space. There are 4 double bedrooms leading off a spacious landing on the first floor, all with lovely boarded floors and stripped panel doors. The principal suite has a fantastically large window which was the the former hayloft opening, with breathtaking views overlooking the Slad Valley and a picturesque 19th Century folly. There is a good sized bathroom with bath and separate shower and ample room to create a new en-suite in one of the bedrooms.

The real jewel in the Cairngall crown however has to be its gardens. Stretching to circa half an acre, the grounds contain a plethora of fruit trees, including a mulberry, quince, plum and pear, together with several mature and handsome lime trees. There are numerous sitting out areas with formal topiary adding structure to the main garden which is largely left to grow naturally. There is a lovely pond surrounded by bamboo, a green oak summerhouse with sedum roof, greenhouse and treehouse. There is even a beautiful dovecote filled with pure white doves! Parking for several cars leads to an area with large workshop.

Directions

From our Stroud Office proceed up the hill passing the Police station on the left hand side and the public car park on the right. You are advised to park on the road and walk along the gravel drive on your first visit and Caringall Cottage is the last house on the right hand side at the end of the gravel driveway.
