2 bed Flat For Sale £945,000
Sulgrave Road, London W6

Description
This bright two-bedroom apartment sits on the top floor of Victorian terrace in the conservation area of Brook Green. Thoughtfully designed by architecture practice Teatum + Teatum, the apartment marries contemporary design and natural materials to create an interplay of light and volume. Clean lines and a pared-back palette accentuate the apartment's carefully considered joinery. A secluded south-facing terrace offers unobstructed views over the neighbouring roofscape. Sulgrave Road is a short walk from the cafés, shops and restaurants of Brook Green and Shepherd’s Bush.

The Architect

Teatum + Teatum is a London-based architecture practice that produces innovative contemporary architecture, focused the experiential and social opportunity of space. The practice explores ways contemporary design interacts with its historic context and the built environment. Work includes new buildings, the re-organisation of existing space and master planning, and it has developed projects in the housing and workspace sectors across a series of scales.

The Tour

The apartment is located on the corner of Sulgrave Road, a quiet residential tree-lined street. The front door is set back from the road, behind a low white-rendered wall. Entry to the apartment is through a door on the second floor, which leads into a double-height stairwell. This space is illuminated by a large Velux skylight and a large window. A half-turn staircase acts as a sculptural core and ascends to a hallway on the top floor.

The tranquil sitting and dining room sits on one side of the plan. Here, a built-in ash joinery unit runs along the back wall, creating storage and a cleverly designed section for seating. On the opposite side of the room, a freestanding birch ply wall creates a backdrop for dining, accented by two black sconces. This subtle shift of materials, from ash to birch ply allows a delineation of spaces. This room has direct access to a south-facing terrace through floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. Engineered whitewashed ash floorboards run throughout the apartment.

The kitchen is on the other side of the plan where the natural palette continues; appliances and storage are neatly concealed behind custom ply cabinets, and the countertop and splashback are finished in Carrara marble. A skylight gives the room a soft glow. Sliding doors also open from the kitchen onto the terrace.

Two generous bedrooms occupy the back of the plan and mirror each other. Wide spaces, these rooms are top-lit and characterised by washed birch ply joinery, which wraps around the rooms. In one bedroom the ply creates a single form that provides storage, seating and a headboard. Each has an adjoining bathroom clad in white subway tiles and illuminated by a skylight. One bedroom is en suite; the other is an en-suite and can also be accessed from the living space.

Outdoor Space

The south-facing terrace is sensitively designed to highlight the unobstructed views of the skyline. The white perforated powder-coated screens contrast beautifully with the black-stained slatted birch cladding of the façade; the floor is laid with charcoal grey bricks in a herringbone pattern. Built-in seating runs along the perimeter of the terrace, and ample space for additional outdoor furniture and planters makes it the perfect spot for entertaining.

Sulgrave Road is located near Brook Green, a beautiful residential area renowned for its family-friendly park, playground, tennis courts and numerous outstanding primary and secondary schools.
