Location
Shipton Oliffe is a delightful Cotswold village situated high up in the Cotswolds and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside. The name Shipton, meaning “sheep farmstead”, indicates that sheep farming occurred here long before the Norman invasion and the nearby market town of Northleach was one of the most important wool towns in the Middle Ages. The Domesday Book refers to two manors, Oliffe and Solers, each with its own Church and within the village is the Church of St Oswald.

The village is extremely accessible having the A40 within a mile of the property. Indeed the A40 provides good east/west access to London, Cheltenham and the M5, whilst the nearby Fosseway gives excellent north/south access. Also nearby is the village of Andoversford which offers a primary school and The Royal Oak Inn. The River Coln, just a tiny stream at this point, flows through the village over two fords and innumerable little water splashes, creating ornamental lakes in private properties.

The Regency town of Cheltenham is about seven miles away and retains many of its original features such as spacious squares, terraces, promenades and beautifully laid out formal gardens. Apart from providing exceptional shopping and schooling facilities, it also hosts several major festivals each year including those devoted to music, science and literature. Local recreational facilities include golf at Naunton Downs and Severn Springs and sailing at the Cotswold Water Park. As one would expect, there are many pleasant footpaths that offer extensive walking over the surrounding countryside.
