The house boasts a rich history and was built by Henry “Hughie” Hughes, a prominent architect for Kings College, in the orchard grounds of the neighbouring farm plans dated 1953. It was owned by Kings College until 1992 and previously and until recently lived in exclusively by Fellowes of Kings College.

Sydney Brenner lived in the house with his wife May from 1973 - 1984. He spent 20 years in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge and was the Nobel Prize for Physiology/ Medicine. More recently the house was owned and lived in by John Barber, a Fellow at Kings College, from the late 1980’s until 2021 and he specialised in the history and politics of modern Russia.
