The Street, Ewelme, Wallingford, Oxfordshire OX10

Description
Grade II listed secluded period home with an abundance of history

Description
The Manor House has just been recently refurbished and is blessed with an abundance of natural light and is surrounded by idyllic countryside enjoying stunning rural views from all aspects.

Entering the house, you are firstly greeted by an enclosed porch, which opens up on to the entrance hall and the main staircase. The two main reception rooms are located towards the front of the house, both with a feature fireplace and near floor to ceiling sash windows overlooking the front and side grounds of the property.

Through the reception room on the right are a further two rooms both of good size which could either be used as an additional dining room and study. There is a spacious kitchen which has a range of wall and base units, an electric aga, integrated appliances and a separate breakfast room with space for a large breakfast table. A utility is also linked to the kitchen with direct access to the garden.

The first floor offers a range of attractive rooms with the principal bedroom located towards the front of the property with an en suite offering a walk-in shower and bath. The largest of the bedrooms is also located towards the front of the property and both rooms have character with original exposed wooden beams and offer views over the front grounds. The hallway leads up to separate section to the back of the property where there are two further bedrooms, an airing cupboard, and a family bathroom.

A smaller staircase leads up to two further rooms, which have magnificent, historically very important, arch-braced roof features which are reflective of the original high status of the building. These rooms could be used as additional bedrooms, reception rooms or as a games room. There are also two cellars, one which is accessed from the kitchen and one via the staircase under the main stairs.

To the rear of the property there is a separate outbuilding incorporating a garage, workshop, garden store and a gardener’s rest room with toilet and sink. There is also an electric charging point for cars.

This beautiful property is surrounded by 2.5 acres of its own grounds. The original Ewelme Palace (now a Scheduled Monument) was located in the grass meadow to the west of the current Manor House.

The landscaped gardens to the north of the house feature mainly lawned areas with mature trees. To the east there is a large and productive garden, with extensive beds containing a variety of beautiful shrubs and flowers, all of which provide plenty of colour. A graveled path leads to a grass tennis court located to the south of the main garden.

The electric gates at the entrance open on to an attractive gravel drive, leading to a large parking area in front of the house and which continues around to the rear of the property.

Location
The Grade II listed Manor House was originally part of what was known as ‘Ewelme Palace’. The impressive Palace, now long since demolished, was surrounded by a moat and home to the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk, major benefactors of Ewelme. Visited by both Henry VIII and his daughter Elizabeth I on a number of occasions, the original Palace followed the design of Eton College and was a very important property in its time.

Dating back to the mid-1400’s, the current Manor House is the only part of the Palace still remaining. It originally formed a separate, self-contained range of accommodation, incorporating a Court Hall, kitchens, rooms for members of the household, and for guests. Offering many internal historic features, with outlines of the original stone windows and doorways, it is therefore a unique and rare property in which to live.
