House For Sale £750,000
Shirley Road, Enfield EN2

Description
This wonderful three-bedroom house is located on the tree-lined Shirley Road, bordering the Enfield Conservation Area. A sensitive renovation has introduced a considered colour palette and a contemporary flow to the house, with a rear extension that opens directly onto a south-facing garden. The house has been designed to capture light at all times of the day, with sash windows and walls of glazing maximised by Victorian proportions. There is an outhouse in the garden with underfloor heating and insulation.

The Tour

Entry to the house is via a chequerboard tiled path and through the navy front door to the entrance hall. To the left of the main hallway, the sitting room features a dark grey palette that juxtaposes wonderfully with the Victorian features, such as the original picture rail that runs along the perimeter and the fireplace with a wood burner. Light pours in from a bay window at the front of the plan and from a skylight leading through to the kitchen. Oak parquet flooring runs underfoot.

From the sitting room, down a short set of wooden steps, is the kitchen and dining room extended from the original configuration. The room is wonderfully bright due to a pane of structural glass that forms a skylight, while full-height sliding doors open out onto the garden and draw light in from the rear.

Along one wall, brick is left exposed, and a counter is topped with a light grey quartz. The space is lined with a tiled splashback in a similar shade and accented with brass fittings; here, underfloor heating runs below the parquet flooring. A dark grey island is topped with the same quartz and has an overhang that allows for stools to be placed underneath; it has build-in drawers and a sink. The grey and honey tones of the room tie the palette of the house together beautifully. Under the stairs is a neat powder room with marble tiles and space for extra storage.

Three bedrooms are located on the first floor. Each room is carpeted and has wooden shutters. The tranquil main bedroom is at the front of the plan and has calming grey walls and a pair of sash windows that overlook the verdant garden. It has a large built-in wardrobe and an original fireplace. Painted a vibrant blue, the second bedroom has a large and well-portioned sash window; it also has an original fireplace. A third bedroom is currently configured as a nursery but could easily fit a double bed.

The family bathroom on this floor is fitted with underfloor heating and a bathtub. The palette is consistent with the kitchen and the rest of the house; Navy blue walls contrast with pale grey tiles and unlacquered taps, which have developed a beautiful patina over time.

Planning permission has been granted for a further bedroom and a bathroom on the second floor.

Outdoor Space

Sliding doors open from the dining area to a tiled terrace and the private south-facing garden. The terrace space is perfect for eating and entertaining alfresco in the summer months. A step below the deck is a turfed lawn surrounded by recessed planters, filled with palm and mature shrubbery. Bound by a black fence, the garden feels enclosed and secluded.

At the end of the garden is the timber-clad outhouse, painted to match the fencing. The walls are insulated, and there is underfloor heating installed. This room could suit a variety of configurations, from a home office to an artist’s studio or gym.
