Location

Often referred to as the Queen of the Cotswolds, Painswick has a tremendous sense of community spirit. Columbus Cottage, situated on the Cheltenham Road, is within easy walking distance of the heart of the village and the many local amenities, including two popular pubs, a bijou hotel and small local restaurant, 3 cafes and an arts and community centre. There is a well stocked village shop a few minutes' walk from the property, as well as a chemist and even a popular fabric shop.

One of the many attractions of the area is the excellent choice of schools, with grammar schools in Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham, as well as many highly regarded schools in the private sector. The village is very popular with tourists and is well known for the beautiful Rococo Gardens, an established golf course, and The Beacon, a huge expanse of common land offering a wonderful source of walks and far-reaching views to the Malvern Hills.

Well-placed for commuting, Painswick is circa 90 minutes to London by train, from nearby Stroud mainline station and approximately 20 minutes' drive to Cheltenham and Gloucester. The M5 motorway is also within easy reach, for commuting to Bristol and The Midlands.

Description

Columbus Cottage is a stunning example of a renovated and extended detached period home full of charm and character close to the heart of the village. The property has been subject to a major renovation project over the past few years and the current vendors have made many improvements creating a clever blend of both period and modern family living throughout to an extremely high standard. Originally built in the early 1830's this two-up two-down cottage has been extended several times to provide further accommodation on both the ground and first floors. On the ground floor there is an impressive open plan kitchen/breakfast/family room with stylish Woodchester Cabinet Makers handmade kitchen and Aga, a log burner in the breakfast area and bi-fold doors leading out to the garden from the family area. This is complemented by a separate panelled dining room, a sitting room with under floor heating, a cellar, utility/boot room and a cloakroom. Upstairs in the main house there are three principal double bedrooms all of which have en-suite bath/shower rooms. Adjoining the cottage is the separate annexe, well presented again, with a spacious open plan sitting/dining/kitchen and a double bedroom with en-suite shower room - perfect for guests or as an air b&b.
Outside the garden is mostly south facing with lawned area, mature trees and flower borders, an enclosed patio/seating area, parking for at least three vehicles and pretty village views.
