Tredegar is a town situated on the banks of the Sirhowy River in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, in the south east of Wales. Within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire, it became an early centre of the Industrial Revolution in Wales. Tredegar has strong links with prominent Labour MPs and the history of the Labour Party and the Labour Movement in Britain as a whole. It was the birth place of Aneurin Bevan, who was responsible for the introduction of the British National Health Service (nhs) and who in the 1920s was involved in the management of Tredegar General Hospital. Neil Kinnock, leader of the Labour Party from 1983 to 1992, was born in Tredegar in 1942 and lived there for most of his early life.
