House For Sale £525,000
Idstone Road, Fishponds, Bristol BS16

Description
'We wanted to create something beautiful. Inspired by cycling trips in Europe, living in barns in the south of France, we learnt to really enjoy living spaces that offered an opening to nature. To build something that allowed us to have our living space looking at the greenery outside was really important to us. It was challenging to build, with the extension off on a 10 degree angle from the house and a 15 degree angle on the roof, but it was really fun and a great way for us to harness our interest in the sustainability of building and to see if we do want to build our own home in future. What we have now is a sociable and versatile space which offers gradual steps from inside to out, from the living space, through the decking and on to the garden. It’s a great place to have friends over, but even for just two of us, we spend all our time there.'

Situated on a substantial corner plot, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, is this truly incredible extended home. The back and side of the house has an amazing green vista, adjoining the wild space which leads to the Bristol to Bath railway path, and a large garden within which sits an extension amazing enough to stop you in your tracks. This Douglas fir-clad extension designed by Bristol-based ‘Practical Architects’, built with a clear attention to detail extension and finished with a beautiful minimalist style. The impressive works carried out have created an incredible light and versatile kitchen/living space. Tall vaulted ceilings and slim profile windows and doors, allow the space to be filled with natural light and afford brilliant glimpses of the greenery that surrounds, including a beautiful old willow tree, visible as you enter the extension from the 1930s section of the house. In the evening and in winter, the vast space can become a cosy hub to pass time reading or watching films, with a contemporary Morso woodburner set in the corner. The character in the rest of the home has been well preserved where possible to offer a wonderful contrast of spaces. The downstairs has a bay fronted living room, whilst upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. Whilst also being so impressive on the eye, this is a practical home, with great features for modern living. The outdoor workshop is a brilliant space for hobbies or to use as an office and the home also offers off street parking and a bike/bin store.

Idstone Road is a quiet road of 1930s homes, close to the centre of Fishponds. The area has been extremely popular with its residents for its quiet, community feel and its accessibility to the rapidly improving Fishponds High Street and Straits Parade area, including Snuffy Jack’s micropub and The Crafty Egg. The area hugely benefits from several fantastic green spaces, like Oldbury Court Estate, Snuff Mills, Eastville Park and Stoke Park, all situated along the Frome Valley Walkway. For commuters, the area is also very well placed, just a short journey from the City Centre and several major employers in Filton Abbey Wood, Patchway and Aztec West, with several bus and cycle routes available, including the Bristol to Bath path which runs adjacent to the house. The area is also popular with families for having several well-regarded schools in the vicinity, as well as a great range of spacious homes.

We would strongly recommend coming to view this unique home. Viewing commence Friday 23rd September.
