The Green, Market Weighton, York YO43

Description
A fantastic character property offering substantial living space and versatile outbuilding complimented by a large, private garden and garaging to the rear.

Description
This unique property dates from 1843, designed by the architect Sir Henry Francis Lockwood whose works included Bradford City Hall and Salts Mill in Saltaire. The building was originally designed to serve as a police station, passing into private ownership in the 1970's. The late owner was responsible for a number of improvements and additions, including a double garage and stable (1985), an adjoining annexe and office (1994) and more recently a rear day room/living area and the front railings (2003). Each adaptation and addition has enhanced the building without undermining its original appearance, many of the changes providing flexible living and work spaces with the opportunity to convert into a number of other uses.

The property occupy a peaceful position opposite a small green, in a designated conservation area, close to the centre of this well served market town. There are several pedestrian entrances from the street and gated vehicular access to the side, a block paved driveway sweeping to the side of the garden to a parking area alongside the double garage. The garden is a particular highlight, larger than average and particularly private, a large central lawn flanked by mature hedging and framed by trees. There is also a patch of garden alongside a stream providing a wonderful play area and a further space behind the garage ideal for a vegetable plot or greenhouse, supported by a number of timber outbuildings/stores.

Inside there are a pair of flexible reception rooms to the front, both with high ceilings and large timber sash windows framing the leafy green opposite. To the rear is a large L shaped kitchen/breakfast room with space for a sitting area, all overlooking the rear garden. Off this are the utility room and annexe which has stairs leading up to an office, both areas providing an opportunity to create additional accommodation (subject to the necessary consents). On the first floor, via a wide landing are four double bedrooms and a family bathroom, complimented by a separate WC.
