The Hamels estate lands were mentioned in the Doomsday book and were passed on to English nobility in 1534, and owned by King Henry Vlll. The Grade ll listed mansion itself was built by John Brograve in around c. 1590, however it boasts a very changeable history since then, having been the home over the centuries to aristocracy, politicians, a school, and finally served as the headquarters of a local building company, Hubert C Leach & Co.
