Kings Road, Windsor, Berkshire SL4

Description
Elegant Grade II Listed Georgian townhouse settled toward the end of the enviable Kings Road with direct access to The Long Walk.

Elegant Grade II Listed townhouse settled toward the end of the enviable Kings Road, undoubtedly positioned with convenience in mind, a short stroll to the high street and independent shops along with some of Windsor’s hidden gem restaurants and dining experiences. This property is very fortunate to have direct access onto the Long Walk and benefits from access to private enclosed communal gardens.

Presented over three floors, upon entrance to the property a welcoming reception hall provides privacy to living areas and space for coats and other storage including a cloakroom concealed under the staircase. Original wooden floorboards leading from hallway to drawing area compliment the other characteristics of this period home, the fireplaces and sash windows give the property an unquestionable charming feel.

The front facing living room is carpeted and provides a comfortable relaxing and entertaining area, this room is part open plan which leads to the rear of the property via the drawing room onto the kitchen, this area combines stainless steel drawers and wooden worktops creating the right blend of personality and practicality, a gas hob and washing machine and dishwasher slot under the counters to the side of the ceramic sink basin for ease of use. A back door from the kitchen leads out to a small courtyard and further gate onto the communal grounds which beyond that you are directly on The Long Walk.

On the first floor there is what could be classified as one of the principal bedrooms which is front facing and generously proportioned with alcoves for full height built in wardrobes if desired, the Victorian style spacious bathroom is also located on this floor which is used by all bedrooms and includes a standalone roll-topped bath and wet room style shower. Again, the views from here are overlooking the Long Walk. The upper floor is arranged to provide two further bedrooms one of which is identical size to the main room directly below, but this already has a full length of built in wardrobes the other bedroom again has ample room for a double bed, you will also find on the landing access to a loft storage area which can also be used to gain access to the roof of the property for works and maintenance.

The front door of this property is set back from the road, and you have a small private garden patio area for some planters and shrubbery, this is accessed via a pedestrian gate set within a low brick retaining wall.

The story

I had always wanted to live in a three-story townhouse, so when this Georgian property became available in 2002, I was immediately attracted by the high ceilings, sash windows, original floorboards and of course, the incredible view over Windsor Great Park.
Many of the original features had been stripped out previously so work commenced to restore the character. The walls had been papered with woodchip, in every room and removing this, also removed most of the original (horsehair) plaster, a long and very dirty job. Rewiring and replastering followed, and a stud wall installed to recreate the hallway and adapt the ground floor living space. Bespoke ceiling roses and coving were added to restore the former elegance of this home, cast iron radiators were a further addition as well as the installation of a working fireplace in the living room.
One of my favourite features of this property is the staircase which is a core architectural feature of this period home and leads to a spacious landing and generous family bathroom from which the views over Windsor Great Park are simply breath taking.
The cosy courtyard opens to a communal area known fondly as The Paddock. A shared space, which is a sociable area for all the King’s road residents, their children and their four legged friends. Access to Windsor Great park is possible by two gates to the paddock and from here, you are less than a minute’s stroll to the Long Walk with a view to the Castle via the Cambridge gate. My favourite view of all though, is beneath the canopy of majestic and ancient trees, either side of the Long Walk. A sight to behold at any time of the year and one which I have never tired of, especially in the Autumn and Spring time when the sheer splendour of those branches invokes a feeling of tranquillity and calm. Living here for twenty years has been a privilege and a joyful opportunity to embrace the perfect balance of town living and rural life. Daily dog walks in the park, exploring Virginia water and Savill gardens, local coffee shops and gastropubs abound. I hope the future custodians of this King’s road property will enjoy this place as much as I have.
