House For Sale £1,000,000
Biggs Lane, Dinton, Aylesbury HP17

Description
A beautiful period cottage set in delightful gardens in a central position in this much admired Buckinghamshire village.

“Biggs Cave is a 17th Century cottage so named because of its possible historical association with John Bigg the 'Dinton Hermit' who was employed as a Clerk to Simon Mayne of Dinton Hall. Mayne was one of the signatories to the death warrant for Charles I and it was rumoured locally that John Bigg may have been one of the King's executioners. Whether this was true or not, after Mayne's death in the Tower of London in April 1661 Bigg became a recluse and lived in a nearby 'cave' until his death in 1696”.

This delightful Grade II Listed cottage has only changed hands twice in the last 69 years and has been lovingly refurbished throughout by the present owner. The property is of wychert construction which is localised to the area under a combed wheat read thatched roof. The accommodation offers immense charm throughout and the attention to detail in the way all the elements have been restored to their former glory is breath-taking; every beam and door has been hand waxed to bring out the beautiful grain of the wood.
Accommodation

The main sitting room is beautifully timbered with a central stone open inglenook fireplace. Double doors lead off to the garden room which is beautifully constructed from wood, with casement doors out to the garden. The dining room has another lovely inglenook stone fireplace complete with bread oven and a wood burning stove. The floor is laid with original flagstones. The kitchen is particularly well equipped with ‘limed oak’ units with integrated appliances and a quarry tiled floor. Completing the ground floor is a cloak/shower room.

On the first floor there are three double rooms, one of which is currently used as an office, plus a bathroom.
Outside

The property is approached over a generous driveway providing ample parking space for several vehicles. The double large garage has double wooden doors, light and power, together with plenty of storage in the roof.

The gardens are an absolute delight and a real testament to the owner’s passion. There are areas of lawn, well stocked flower beds and borders which flower prolifically through the seasons, together with stunning Acers. There is a sheltered paved terrace and at the foot of the garden there are raised vegetable beds, a greenhouse and a garden shed.
