Seller's insight
When we started our search for a new home, we were looking for something which would offer a gentler pace of life. We both had busy work lives which took us abroad and to London on a regular basis so we wanted to find a sanctuary we could retreat to at the end of the day. We centred our search in Suffolk, because of its beautiful landscape, with the criteria of a secluded location but within easy reach of London.

Spindleberry was the first property we found that fit our brief and we fell for it on the first viewing. Set back from the road, down a long tree lined drive, the house is positioned in the middle of the grounds, completely surrounded by mature trees and hedging, and borders onto a wood, owned by the Woodland Trust. The sense of space and tranquillity, together with complete privacy, was exactly what we'd been looking for, in an ideal location. We're just on the edge of Brantham village with all its amenities and only a five-minute drive from Manningtree and it's station, with direct rail links to London. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful, with walks through the woods to the estuary, we're always surprised what a secret the area still is. We've been spoilt with the best of both worlds, a haven from the rigours of everyday life but with everything on the doorstep if we want it.

The house needed some updating when we moved in, so over the past few years we have renovated throughout and installed a fabulous new kitchen, a spacious utility room and new garages. We've also extended to the side to incorporate an additional garage and a new master suite above. This is one of my favourite rooms in the house. The master bedroom is incredibly spacious, with a full-size dressing room, ensuite and a balcony overlooking the garden; every woman's dream!

The sitting room is another favourite. South facing, with its large triple aspect windows overlooking the grounds, and doors leading out onto the terrace, it's always full of light. In fact, all the ground floor rooms have doors that lead out onto the garden. I think the garden is something I will miss the most when we leave. It feels like living in a park, with all the trees and the luxury of having so much space around us. We've hosted many summer parties out there by the pool and with the south facing aspect it catches the sun throughout the day.

We've decided to move to downsize. With so much space available and excellent schools in the local area the house would make the ideal home for a new family.

The property
Located in the delightful village of Brantham in Suffolk, Spindleberry is an imposing 1930s red brick house. Tucked away on the outskirts of the village, but within walking distance of all its amenities, this fantastic property is situated in the centre of a spacious plot of approximately 1.57 acres (sts) comprising mature trees and planting, and bordering onto a woodland area owned by The Woodland Trust.

The property is presented in immaculate condition, having undergone a full refurbishment throughout, including the addition of a two-storey extension to the side, creating an additional garage area and an impressive master suite.

Set well back from the road, the approach to the property is via a shingle driveway, extending into a block paved drive which provides ample parking for a number of vehicles, including four garages for covered storage. The double integrated garage benefits from automated doors.

On entering, the front hallway organically flows out into the living areas of the ground floor. To the right of the hall is the newly installed kitchen with its central island breakfast bar and marble worksurfaces. Fully equipped with an Aga, plus Neff electric oven and induction hob, the light neutral palette carries through to the generous utility room which benefits from excellent storage and access to the rear garden plus access to three of the garages. The formal dining room is ideally located adjacent to the kitchen with doors leading onto the terrace.

Continuing through the hallway is the snug; a charming cosy room, with a gas fire and views to the garden, through the french doors. The large, south facing, family sitting room is both spacious and bright with a triple aspect overlooking the grounds; with two sets of french doors leading onto the terrace, and a large log burner for the winter months. The second sitting room is tucked away towards the front of the property and would make an excellent additional home study, for those with flexible working arrangements.

Ascending to the first floor are five bedrooms with a sixth bedroom located on the second floor. Three bedrooms benefit from large contemporary ensuite facilities, with the remaining rooms serviced by a generous shower room and separate WC. The master suite has been beautifully designed, with a balcony overlooking the gardens, and the luxury of a sizeable dressing room. One of the bedrooms is currently used as a dedicated home office.

The grounds are one of the many highlights of this property. Surrounded by mature trees and hedging, the garden is secluded and extremely private. With a south-facing aspect, the raised terrace, which leads to the seating area around the heated swimming pool, benefits from the sun throughout the day. The pool area also boasts a four-seater hot tub and a pretty summerhouse, ideal for storing garden furniture during the winter months.
