Newstone Cottages, East Street, Turners Hill, West Sussex RH10

Description
Charming Grade II listed stone cottage with landscaped gardens, situated in the heart of the village.

Description
8 Newstone Cottages is one of a charming row of Grade II listed cottages built in 1919 by Lord Cowdray and designed by Sir Aston Webb, a prominent architect who also designed nearby Worth Abbey. The row consists of five pairs, built with stone and timber elevations giving them a Tudor appearance; they are believed to have been built for the stone masons working on Worth Abbey and exemplify many fine details not usually found in former worker’s cottages.

Number 8 is beautifully presented, with many authentic features of including mullioned windows, stripped wood architraves and panelled and latched wood doors.

A solid wood front door opens to the entrance hall, which leads to the sitting room, which has block parquet flooring, a working fireplace and fitted cupboards to either side of the chimney breast. Lying to the rear is the kitchen, with a quarry tiled floor and good range of wall mounted and undercounter fitted units under wood and laminate worktops, a gas hob, an electric oven and an inset woodburning stove.

A stable door opens to the conservatory, which has a stone tiled floor and space for dining table and chairs in addition to further seating, creating a spacious room to enjoy the lovely outlook over the landscaped gardens.

On the first floor are two bedrooms, one with fitted cupboards and the other with stripped wood floors and a feature fireplace. A bathroom with modern suite completes the accommodation; please refer to the floorplans for an overview of the full layout including storage cupboards.

The outside space offered by number 8 is a particularly fine feature of the property. To the front is a pretty garden with a lawn and selection of flowering shrubs planted; to the side is a gravelled driveway providing parking for several cars, and full planning permission has been granted for the erection of a garage adjacent to the house, ref DM/20/3326 (expires October 2023).

A gate leads through the rear garden, which has been beautifully landscaped into distinct sections with lighting set at strategic points. Adjacent to the house and accessed from the conservatory is a sandstone patio leading to the raised decking, which has space for table and chairs; beyond lies a lawn bordered by extremely well-stocked beds. A path leads down one side to an archway which leads to the lower patio, the summer house with power connected, the timber shed and a gate giving access to the track at the rear over which the property enjoys a right of way. There is further shed at the top of the garden.
