Seller Insight

Designed and project managed by the current owners to fit in with the local Georgian and Victorian architecture, Orchard House – completed in 2018 – was built to a high specification. A bespoke home in the Cambridgeshire village of Brampton set within a delightful south/southwest facing garden it is traditional yet tastefully modern. ‘We couldn’t find a period property in Brampton that fitted with a modern lifestyle, so we looked at building a home which was a modern take on a style incorporating great craftsmanship and plenty of character. We’ve paid great attention to detail and not compromised on space. From the outset we loved the look and feel of the plot and knew that there was the potential to create something unique and really quite special. The site used to be part of an orchard - with some of the original fruit trees remaining in situ - hence the name Orchard House, so we wanted to make a home which both honoured and made the very best of the surroundings. Via a beautiful veranda, the house opens out to a 25-metre long garden which leads to a brook lined with mature trees – we get excellent wildlife passing through, from hedgehogs to pheasants, ducks and woodpeckers. The house is in one of the most sought-after roads in the village which joins the village green, a conservation area.

‘We’ve designed the house to have lots of standout features and we are often complimented on the overall build being rather beautiful and impressive.’

‘Downstairs can be opened up to be open-plan or closed down for a more intimate feel – the large areas are great for entertaining friends and family whilst rooms such as the second lounge/office make a perfect retreat and is perfect for remote working. The staircase and spacious, light landing make quite an entrance through the bespoke oversized traditional front door while the lounge with its log burner ensure there is always somewhere cosy for us to warm up after a chilly dog walk.’

‘Brampton is a well-served village with several shops, pubs and cafés, all within walking distance. Its location has really worked for our commute to work with Cambridge and Peterborough being a 20 minute-drive on the A14 and A1 respectively, and London being less than an hour by train from nearby Huntingdon.’

‘We can see the neighbouring houses however nothing feels too close. Many people have lived here for a long time and are well-established – it’s a friendly place where people help each other out. We’ve made some wonderful friends in our time here and will miss it greatly.’
