Seller Insight

Situated just a mile south-west of Huntingdon and half an hours’ drive from the historic city centre of Cambridge is the well-served village of Brampton. Number Four West End is a much-loved family home that sits in the heart of the village and boasts a large and extremely attractive garden that extends to around three quarters of an acre.

“My father bought the house forty-five years ago, and it’s where I lived from the age of twelve so it’s a place that’s been a big part of my life, ” says the owner. “We believe it originally dates back to the 16th century and that it was a former public house, the Crosskeys, but over time it has been sympathetically enlarged so it’s very characterful. It has lots of attractive exposed beams and a big inglenook in the middle reception room, which is a lovely focal point. However, unlike a lot of period properties it has a layout that’s very open and flows really nicely, which was ideal for busy family life. My father didn’t make a lot of changes to the property, he loved it just the way it is, and for me it was a lovely family home, but there’s definitely a wealth of potential for the new owners to come in and really make it their own.”

“i’d say that the garden was probably my father’s favourite feature of the property. He was a really keen gardener and it’s beautifully stocked with an array of attractive and very mature plants and trees. There are lots of lovely places to sit out and relax in, a big open lawn, which is ideal for children to have a good run around, and there’s also a greenhouse and a large orchard so it’s also a very productive garden. What I love about it is the fact that it’s completely hidden from view so very private and also very peaceful. In fact, it’s so tucked away that when people come to visit for the first time they’re often surprised to see such a large lush, green space.”

“My favourite room in the house is the middle reception room, which was always the heart of the home. It features the big inglenook fireplace, and when there’s a fire roaring away on a cold winter’s day it takes on a wonderfully cosy atmosphere.”

“Brampton is a great place to raise a family. The house is just a stone’s throw from the village green, there’s a lovely little primary school only a walk away, a couple of pubs and a really good selection of shops. And the train station is within striking distance, so it’s an ideal place for commuters.”

“At the side of the garden is a large barn, which is used for storage but which is big enough for two cars. However, i’ve always thought it has real development potential – subject to planning, of course. It could be a home office, a games room or even a self-contained annexe.”

“For us, this was a really wonderful family home, ” says the owner. “I used to enjoy the fact that it’s in the heart of village life, but when we were out in the garden we always felt as if we were miles from anywhere.”
