The Goldthread Works, a classical Victorian foundry, stands as one of the few surviving links to the Industrial Revolution in Preston. Established in 1829, Stephen Simpson Ltd moved to the site on Avenham Street in 1831. From here Simpson’s manufactured gold and silver thread, as well as producing exquisite and intricate embroidery as commemorative memorabilia. They earned an international reputation, with their badges and braids adorning the uniforms of British Forces personnel all over the world.
