3 bed Flat For Sale £1,250,000
Corbetts Wharf II, Bermondsey Wall East, London SE16

Description
This fantastic three-bedroom apartment sits on the edge of a narrow stretch of the Thames in Grade ii-listed Corbetts Wharf in Bermondsey. Far-reaching views along the river stretch all the way to Tower Bridge, the Shard and central London. Sensitively renovated with its industrial origins in mind, contemporary additions have been cleverly introduced, yet the warehouse aesthetic remains. Original oak timber beams, columns and pine floorboards run throughout. A garage on the ground floor has space for one car, and has a mezzanine level above. Corbetts Wharf is a five-minute walk from Bermondsey underground station as well as the restaurants and cafes on Bermondsey Street.

The Building

The apartment is situated on the second floor of a former cereal, flower and bulb factory. Built in the mid-19th century, the building was previously joined to other warehouses on the south side of the street by a gantry. The warehouse closed in 1972 and was converted in the 1980s.

The building was granted Grade ii-listed status in 1989 because of its impressive riverside façade of London Stock Brick, punctuated by seven bays of symmetrical fenestration. On the other side of the building, prominent red cast-iron columns support the first floor. This building, alongside Oliver's Wharf and Bulter's Wharf, makes up a pocket of converted factories on the south side of the Thames, which are a handsome reminder of the city's industrial past.

The Tour

Located on the second floor, the apartment can be accessed by stairs or a lift. The front door opens to a neat entry space, with room for coats and shoes, leading into a central hallway. The open-plan kitchen, living and dining spaces are on the right of the plan, stretching across half of the apartment. Like the rest of the spaces, the room has been finished with an industrial vernacular, referencing the building's former iteration as a warehouse; exposed timber beams have been painstakingly restored, complementing the pine floorboards that have been sanded and oiled. An exposed brick wall with factory-style windows frames far-reaching views of the river. A glazed door opens to a protruding balcony.

The kitchen sits at the front of the plan. Here, cabinetry is painted a cobalt blue, and topped with granite; appliances are integrated and there is plenty of storage. White subway tiles form the splashback, reflecting light into the room, and there is a handy built-in larder.

On the opposite side of the plan are the three bedrooms. The main bedroom is en suite and has built-in wardrobes. Exposed brick runs along one wall, here and in the en suite, adding character and creating a clever cohesion between the rooms. The en suite is finished with red glazed porcelain tiles and has a wonderful Victoria + Albert freestanding bath and walk-in shower.

The main bathroom is finished in grey subway tiles throughout, with a walk-in shower; a contemporary wall-hung vanity sits below a heated mirror.

Outdoor Space

A glazed door leads from the kitchen to a wrought-iron balcony protruding from the façade of the building over the Thames. Standing here creates the feeling of floating above the river and allows for spectacular views of the water and the London skyline. There is plenty of space for outdoor furniture and potted plants.

The Area

Corbetts Wharf occupies a tranquil and unoverlooked position above the banks of the Thames, with the green open spaces of King’s Stairs Gardens a two-minute walk; here, there are dedicated areas for picnics, along with a children's playground and areas for dog walking. The larger Southwark Park is also close.

The immediate area is home to a number of theatre and film studios, as well as some renowned pubs and cafes such as The Mayflower, The Ship and The Brunel, and the charming Watch House Café.

Bermondsey Wall East is extremely well-located for transport links. Rotherhithe Station lies less than a ten-minute walk east and runs London Overground services to Shoreditch High Street and Highbury & Islington. Bermondsey underground station is five minutes walk away for Jubilee Line services to London Bridge, Bond Street and Stratford International.
