'Da Auld House' occupies a great location just across the road from the shore in the village of Scalloway which is conveniently situated in the centre of Shetland just 6 miles from Lerwick, the village being clustered around the harbour and waterfront.

Given its location on the waterfront, the property would make an ideal holiday property, if not used as a permanent home. Shetland has become an increasingly popular tourist destination in recent years thanks to extensive media coverage with numerous TV wildlife programmes, and also the 'Shetland' detective series.

The property was completely renovated in the late 1990’s retaining only the original stone walls. The traditional appearance of the original cottage has been retained, with a natural slate roof and sash and case style windows, these being double glazed. Heating is provided by electric storage / panel heaters supplemented by an open fire in the living room.

Accommodation
The front entrance door opens to an attractive hallway finished, like the rest of the house, with pine skirtings and door surrounds etc., pine paneled doors to either side opening to the kitchen to the left and the living room to the right. Ahead is the shower room. A small built-in cupboard provides some space for coats etc. And also houses the electric meters, and lighting is provided by several wall lights. A spiral staircase leads up to the first floor.

The wood effect vinyl flooring in the hallway extends into the kitchen which enjoys the south-facing aspect, as do all the main rooms. Both bedrooms are double rooms with dormer windows enjoying the view south over the harbour approach. Bedroom 1 to the left has varnished floor boards. The second bedroom to the right is carpeted and has a fitted desk by the window but this could easily be removed if required.
