The Cottage is situated on the High Street within a quiet area of the the village of Nawton, a popular and well-served village located almost halfway between the Georgian market towns of Helmsley (about two and a half miles) and Kirkbymoorside (about three and a half miles).

The village benefits from a number of amenities, including a primary school (Ofsted Good 2022) and Ryedale School (Academy), a well-supported sports club, a regular bus service, a pub and Indian restaurant, garage and a playing field.

The village stands on the southern slopes of the North Yorkshire Moors providing endless walks and a haven for outdoor pursuits.

Just over a mile away is the award winning Beadlam Grange Farmshop and Tea room with a butchers, delicatessen and greengrocery including a toddler play area.

Helmsley is a fabulous town with a weekly market and an excellent selection of independent, local shops including clothes stores, a doctor’s surgery, delicatessens, cafes, restaurants, hotels, a spa and a local brewery. In addition there is an arts centre showing films and plays, as well as hosting yoga, exhibitions and concerts. Further afield are the Michelin starred restaurants The Star at Harome (about three miles) and The Black Swan, Oldstead (about 11 miles).

The market town of Malton is now the artisan food capital of North Yorkshire with its award-winning monthly food and farmers markets, as well as a weekly market, and annual Food Lovers’ Festival backed by excellent local shops. There are supermarkets, two breweries, restaurants, the Talbot Hotel, cookery school, tearooms, a cinema, theatre and Castle Gardens five acres of park. Malton and Norton golf club boasts 27 holes and situated about a mile outside Malton. In addition there is Malton Secondary School (Ofsted Good 2015) located on Middlecave Road.

The historic market town of Pickering (about ten and a half miles) is known as the gateway to the Moors. The town boasts a number of public houses, supermarkets, leisure and sport facilities, local independent shops and cafes as well as a 13th century castle, the North York Moors steam railway and a museum.

Dalby Forest is about 23 miles distant with countless walks and cycle trails through stunning scenery, an adventure course and on site cafe. A dark sky discovery site, it is an excellent location for stargazing.

The A170 from Helmsley links to Scarborough and the Yorkshire Coast.

York is about 24 miles to the south and the A1(M) is about 22 miles to the west. Direct trains to London run regularly from Malton (about 15 miles), Thirsk (about 16.8 miles) and York, some making the journey in under two hours.

There are superb attractions within the area including the renowned stately home Castle Howard with its farm shop and fabulous gardens (about 12 miles) and the coastal resorts of Whitby (about 27 miles), Scarborough (about 28 miles) and Filey (about 32 miles).
