House For Sale £1,650,000
Cherry Holt Lane, East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire NG13

Description
Awarded The Telegraph’s Contemporary House of the Year award in 2002, this excellent six-bedroom home was built in 2001 and occupies a quiet and secluded position in the sought-after Nottinghamshire village of East Bridgford. Set in beautifully landscaped gardens designed by Diarmuid Gavin, the internal living space extends to over 4,330 sqft across its two storeys, with expansive full-height glass walls inviting an excellent quality of natural light while retaining a seamless visual connection with the verdant backdrop. Newark lies around 11 miles to the west, with direct rail connections from here to London Kings Cross in less than 90 minutes.

The Tour

The house is set back from a quiet lane via a private driveway, with a generous provision of off-street parking; there is also a double garage set to one side. A glass-fronted porchway positioned on the easterly façade leads through to the arterial corridor and a beautifully bright circulation area connecting the two sections of the ground-floor level.

Following an L-shaped open-plan layout, the interior has been designed with careful consideration to everyday living, with a series of full-height pivot and folding doors, which create neat divisions and flexibility of use.

The modern kitchen and dining room extends the southerly arm, where beech flooring runs underfoot. Here, glass doors open the entire space to the terrace and gardens in warmer months. Appliances are neatly housed in a central island topped in Corian, creating a natural yet sociable delineation of the space. Full-height doors divide the living area at the far end of the room, providing flexible space for entertaining or for family life to play out.

Southerly light streams through the open-plan living spaces extending across the opposite side of the house, where dramatic double-height ceilings are intersected by a lower, intimate living space set around an open fire. Glass walls strategically frame an internal courtyard on the opposite side, giving the sense of being enclosed within the green walls of the gardens.

A large study is sectioned off at the furthest end of the house, providing a quiet home workspace that could easily be converted to an additional bedroom or living space. Two of the six bedrooms are also located at ground level, with a Jack-and-Jill shower room positioned centrally. Dividing doors enable this part of the house to easily convert to one large bedroom or additional living or work space.

The upper storey houses the additional four bedrooms, each beautifully proportioned and divided by pivoting doors for great flexibility of use. A family bathroom serves the three bedrooms on the easterly wing. An open walkway bridges the principal bedroom suite on the westerly side of the upper floor. Here, the en suite shower room and dressing room lie to one side, and full-height glazing and ribbons of clerestory frame the lush backdrop of the gardens.

Outdoor Space

Professionally landscaped by the well-renowned garden designer and Chelsea Flower show presenter Diramuid Gavin, the gardens form an integral part of the overall experience of the house. Mature specimen trees, shrubs and hedging ensure excellent privacy and seclusion, while various terraces and secluded enclaves form natural areas to eat and drink outside at various points of the day.

A brise soleil runs the southerly perimeter, providing welcome shade from the summer sun. A striking cylindrical sculpture forms the walkway through the gardens to the northern side, leading to the walled curvature of an internal courtyard.

Herbaceous borders chock-full of flowering perennials and wavering grasses ensure plenty of interest and bursts of colour throughout the seasons. A timber-framed summer house provides the perfect spot to enjoy a book and a morning coffee.
