We have now lived in Essex Road for around 30 years. We have been very happy bringing up our family in this house but have decided to retire nearer to the coast. It is a cul-de-sac, so it is quiet and there is usually only residents and delivery vans going up and down the road. There is a very good community spirit in Essex Road. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help out. We all got together for the Queen's Jubilee last summer, and had a very enjoyable street party. The pre-party meetings were arranged over WhatsApp, and the group has kept going since and chat to each other all the time. It was a short cycle ride to the station when I used to commute to London or Cambridge, and a short walk down the wide cycle paths to the shops, pubs and restaurants in the Old Town. There are a number of green areas and parks locally for exercising dogs and children (or grandchildren). We both enjoy gardening and have poured lots of love into our front and back gardens which are stocked with perennials and herbaceous shrubs.
