Allerds Road, Farnham Royal, Slough SL2

Description
A charming detached period house of immense character located in a semi rural location with the benefit of a south facing garden, carport and outbuildings.

Description
A charming, detached period house of immense character and formerly part of East Burnham Park. Originally called The Gardener’s House, the property was built by Sir Harry Veitch, the eminent horticulturist who was instrumental in establishing the Chelsea Flower Show. The house is dated 1892 on a Dutch style gable overlooking the magnificent walled garden. Built in the Lutyens style, the house has a host of period features including tall chimneys, bay windows, fireplaces and several outbuildings including an old Victorian laundry and steam room.

The reception hall leads through to the wonderful sitting/dining room, overlooking the garden, with feature windows and French doors opening on to the outside terrace. Both rooms have wonderful fireplaces with open fires, built-in cabinetry in the sitting room while the dining room features a characterful old butlers door. The kitchen/breakfast room is well equipped with a good range of units with appliances including a double oven, induction hob and extractor, while the adjacent utility room gives further storage including a pantry. Just off the kitchen is a useful flexible space, ideal as an office or boot room, and was formerly the laundry steam room. On the other side of the house and accessed off the sitting room is a TV/family room, with a lovely garden aspect, and an adjacent music room/study. There are stairs to a bedroom & bathroom so this area could be used as an annexe with dedicated access through the French doors in the family room. Completing the accommodation on this floor is a guest cloakroom.

On the first floor are five characterful double bedrooms and three family bath/shower rooms. From the reception hall, stairs to a half landing split leading to one bedroom overlooking the garden with a large, well appointed bathroom across the hall. Stairs lead to three further bedrooms and a family bathroom. The spacious principal bedroom is dual aspect with wonderful far reaching views and benefits from a range of fitted wardrobes. A further bedroom and adjacent bathroom is accessed from a separate staircase and also leads to a large attic room which could have a multitude of uses.

Outside
The Cottage is wonderfully enclosed in part by brick walls of several periods. An electric roller gate in the roadside wall gives access to the driveway and an oak barn car port. A gravelled terrace adjoins the house, giving an ideal spot outside dining. The southerly facing garden features well stocked beds and borders and a large area of lawn, originally the croquet lawn. There are a variety of mature trees including a Japanese acer, flowering cherry, magnolia, wisteria and of particular note, a fine mulberry tree reputedly the oldest in the country. A wide gravelled path leads to the end of the garden where a large pavilion with a veranda nestles in the corner, providing an excellent versatile space. There are further outbuildings including a garden store and the old Victorian laundry room, located in a charming courtyard just off the kitchen.
