Kings Somborne, Stockbridge, Hampshire, SO20

Description
Adorned in an established Wisteria, this magnificent home forms a wing of the most beautiful characterful country manor house that has been tastefully converted into luxury dwellings boasting an extensive range of period features and an abundance of character. Furzedown House is a truly impressive building dating back to the 1920s and has been a much loved family home. This elegant house is perfectly arranged over three floors and retains much of the characterful splendour associated with its era including the massive Georgian bay window with original lead light windows, coving, ceiling roses, country home wall panelling together with the original quarter oak flooring and fireplaces. It provides a wonderful opportunity to recreate a most magical and substantial family residence. The private oversized wood panelled front door opens into a spacious entrance hall showcasing a feature fireplace with one of two Clearview wood burning stoves and distinctive wall panelling with a concealed cloak cupboard offering ample space for hanging coats and jackets. On the right is a sizeable sitting room featuring a large period-style bay window flooding the room with natural light whilst an ornate stone mantle above the open fire provides a charming focal point and inset for the second of the wood burners. The expensive Miele kitchen showcases extensive work surfaces and units with high quality Neff appliances laying over an opulent Chinese slate floor, supplemented by the useful utility room and neighbouring boot room. A rear porch leads off the kitchen hosting a guest cloakroom whilst also providing access to the private Mediterranean courtyard-style garden. A separate dining room with a large understairs walk-in cupboard completes the ground floor. The first floor continues to impress, providing access to three generous bedrooms, with the principal boasting an extensive bay window, glorious bespoke carpentered wardrobes with built-in dressing table, and an en-suite bathroom with feature Mira shower and underfloor heating. A separate WC and recently modernised bathroom serve the remaining bedrooms. The third floor plays host to a versatile cavernous room currently used as a bedroom. The private gardens, measuring approximately 0.5 acres, feature mature trees enclosed by rustic post and rail fencing providing uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside. A further benefit is the large office/garage/workshop which has been used as a business premise for the last 20 years and offers a versatile space with scope for multiple uses. The building has its own central heating system and loft storage space above.

HISTORICAL NOTE
Furzedown House is a large country house with extensive gardens and grounds that provide a fascinating history. It was used as a USAAF rest home for combat air crews in the UK. Furzedown House joined the programme on the 26 June 1944 and was set up to accommodate 25 officers, allocated initially to the First Bomb Division. Subsequently a number of eminent people have owned the property including members of the Churchill family, Tommy Sopwith and the former MP Duncan Sandys. The house was then divided into a number of apartments including the wings, and it became privately owned again in 1981.
