This wonderful two-bedroom terraced house is nestled on a tranquil residential street in Trumpington, a peaceful area just South of Cambridge. Setting the Scene

Cambridge has an international reputation for some of the finest shops, restaurants, and cultural events in the country. The city has been renowned for centuries as a centre of excellence in education due to its prestigious university and beautiful historic architecture, including Kettle's Yard, The Fitzwilliam Museum, and Kings College, to name a few. For more information, please see the History section below.

The Grand Tour

The pretty façade is characterised by the warm local brick punctuated by original sash windows. Entry is directly to the serene sitting room, which retains its original pine cupboards and a fireplace with a wood-burning stove, creating a cosy atmosphere. The character of the space is enhanced by exposed stripped wooden floorboards.

Next door is the airy dining room with original built-in cupboards and a concealed door to the stairwell. Natural light streams in through a rear-facing sash window, illuminating the space. Through an elegant archway lies the kitchen, brightly lit by windows on two sides and a skylight above. Dark blue cabinetry lines the walls, and terracotta tiles add a touch of warmth underfoot. In the corner, there is room for a smaller dining table, and a glazed door leads to the garden and frames lovely views.

Upstairs, the front-facing large primary bedroom overlooks the quiet residential road. Thoughtfully designed, the space has practical built-in storage, and a short flight of stairs lead to the expansive loft area. Adjacent to the primary bedroom is the charming second bedroom, finished in a cheery shade of warm, Farrow and Ball 'Hay Yellow' and lovely bee wall-paper.

At the rear of the layout is the bright and sunny bathroom, which has a bath, an overhead shower, a vanity, and a WC.

The Great Outdoors

Tucked away at the back of the house, the well-established countryside garden unfurls with a tapestry of mature trees and climbers. Delicate Madame Alfred Carriére roses gracefully scale the trellised walls while a majestic silver birch casts its protective shade during the sun-drenched months. For those with a green thumb, a practical brick outhouse sits at the garden's rear, creating a convenient space for potting or storage. For eating alfresco or a tranquil morning coffee ritual, this secluded spot is private and secluded.

Out and About

Trumpington is wonderfully located for the amenities of the City of Cambridge; in the immediate vicinity, the Orchard Tea Room is a short walk from the house and a 130-year-old institution in the area. There are walks along the River Cam, which lead into Newnham or the City Centre. The Botanic Gardens are also a major attraction with a treasure trove of over 8,000 plant species, including nine National Collections and a wonderful arboretum.

Mill Road is host to several independent eateries, the most notable of which is the revered Vanderlyle and also Midsummer House. For the culturally inclined, David Parr's House, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Scott Polar Museum are among many in the area. Kettle's Yard (a charming arts venue, gallery and café) shows modernist and contemporary exhibitions throughout the year. There is a Shakespeare festival in the Cambridge College grounds every summer, amongst various other festivals; the colleges also host many literary and music events, talks and educational weeks seasonally.

Alpha Terrace is under a 10-minute drive or cycle from Cambridge Station, with regular services to Kings Cross in under an hour. The new Cambridge South station is currently being constructed and is due to open in 2025; walking distance from the house, the station will serve the neighbouring areas and longer-distance journeys throughout the UK.
