Situated in west Herefordshire, in the renowned Golden Valley with idyllic countryside, Neolithic monuments, ancient churches and ruined castles, this place is as beautiful as it is wild and untamed. The name is a little misleading as in fact it is carved between two river valleys, the Dore and The Monnow, and the Black Mountains. This makes for many highs and lows, from the thrilling peaks of the Cat's Back, Black Hill and Moccas Wood to the mosaic of rolling hills and patchworked fields.
Surrounded by some of the Marches' most
beautiful countryside, Shobdon Farm is located in the small rural community of St Margarets, close to the Black Mountains and Offa's Dyke. The nearby villages of Longtown, Ewyas Harold and Peterchurch offer a good range of day-to-day amenities including village shops, public houses, GP surgeries and popular primary schools.
The towns of Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny offer more comprehensive amenities. Hereford has high street stores such as Waitrose together with independent cafes and restaurants, a good range of services including leisure centre and pool, a hospital, cinema and museums and is the social, economic and cultural hub of the county.
The area offers a good selection of state schooling including Ewyas Harold Primary School and Kingstone and Fairfield High Schools together with a wide range of noted independent schools including Hereford Cathedral School and Haberdashers Monmouth.
