Location

Berkswell is located in one of Cornwall’s most sought after addresses in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near the Helford River. It is located conveniently for both golf and sailing on the more accessible north side of the Helford River and is only about 1½ miles from the village of Mawnan Smith which offers shops, a doctor’s surgery, garage, coffee shop and hairdressers. The focal point of the village has always been the Red Lion Inn, which dates back to 1717. The village offers a variety of clubs, societies and sporting activities for all ages.

The Helford River is a large estuary renowned for its scenic beauty and marine ecology with hidden creeks, sheltered valleys and ancient oak forests. Historically the waterways were renowned as a haven for pirates which has inspired many writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and her Frenchman’s Creek novel. There are deep-water moorings available in the river, the Helford River Sailing Club on the south bank along with the famous Shipwrights pub, with a pedestrian ferry between it and the highly regarded Ferry Boat Inn on the north side. Water sports such as sailing, kayaking and paddle-boarding are available on the river, while wild swimming can be enjoyed from the many local beaches. And for the golf enthusiast there is a 9 hole / 18 tee golf course at the nearby Budock Vean Hotel which also has tennis courts and a spa with swimming pool, all available for use by members. For walkers and garden lovers, Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens are close by and there is a wide choice of wonderful local footpaths. The vibrant university and harbour town of Falmouth is 6 miles away and offers a more comprehensive range of shops, restaurants and cinemas along with a rail service to Truro where there is a mainline rail link to London Paddington. There is a local bus service to Helston and Falmouth nearby.

Education- Berkswell is located well for schools for all ages. There is a Primary School in Mawnan Smith (Ofsted Good) just 1.3 miles away whilst there are Secondary schools in Falmouth, Penryn and Truro along with Truro and Penwith College and Falmouth University all within reach.
