A little note from the owners...

We moved here in February 2003 and had been there for 6 years before we bought the land at the bottom of the garden. The land was completely overgrown with 15ft high brambles and we had no idea what we had bought. Some of our farmer friends were pig breeders and they told us the best way to clear the land is to keep pigs on it. We registered the land as a smallholding with Wealden District Council and Riverside Farm was born ! Laurel & Hardy our first pigs arrived ! We've had such fun on the land with our children growing up swimming in the river and keeping sheep, bottle fed lambs, turkeys even a cow arrived called Apple and our favourite sheep called Baaaaaabara who had twin lambs. We dug the pond which is fed by natural springs and it pretty much filled up overnight. We built the barn and stables and started breeding pigs producing our own pork and sausages using our cutting room kitchen in the barn which is crying out to be a farm shop. Two of our children went to Plumpton Agricultural College so we always had animals everywhere! We even had ducklings in our bath! With Kingfishers nesting in the river bank, deer, pheasants, owls, bats and badgers frequently visiting Riverside Farm it really is a beautiful place to live and we hope the next people here will enjoy it as much as we have. Although we have done a lot in our time here, we hope the next custodians will have many adventures to come.
