House For Sale £650,000
Alchester Road, Chesterton

Description
A fabulous renovation and extension of a smart Victorian house overlooking open countryside. Flexible living with up to four large & bright bedrooms, fab kitchen with utility to side, plus a stone outside office, all sat in a large plot with sublime landscaped gardens and generous gated parking.

Chesterton is a popular village offering the best of all worlds. Dating back to Roman times (Akeman Street runs through it) the village is quiet and off the beaten track, steeped in history with a predominance of stone cottages, while providing easy access to many amenities including local pubs and restaurants, Bicester village, M40 and A34, plus a mainline London station (to Marylebone in c. 42 mins) just 2 miles distant.

Sunnyside is a proud and pretty Victorian house sitting back from the land behind its own immaculate, gated parking. Its origins date from the time of high ceilings and large windows, the very best mix of character and practicality that the Victorians could offer. But in the last few years our vendors have taken that very useful base and transformed it into the most pampering and swish of upmarket homes that cossets you with high quality fittings and elegant colours, topped off with a truly fabulous garden you would not expect to find. If ever there were a property that personifies the phrase "go on, spoil yourselves" this is it!

There are comprehensive renovations, and there are comprehensive renovations... Head into the hall and the broad, almost seamless tiling heads away right through to the rear of the house, instantly telling you this house has been finished to a very high spec. The stairs lazily head up and round on your right, lit by a side window, and offering deep storage beneath. First left, the sitting room is utterly charming, light and characterful with a deep window seat in front of a window that overlooks the sublime, walled front garden.. It's also a practical room with useful proportions. But the detailing is what impresses us almost as much, with a new wood burner perfect for cozy nights in, a cupboard built to hide the DVD collection etc, and a Victorian-style column radiator that's just perfect for the age of house.

Back to the hall and the door behind brings you into the extended kitchen. The clever design provides even the most obsessive of chefs with every possible convenience. Long work surfaces, masses of storage, a Belfast-style sink, range cooker, even pull-out fitted trays, all tell of intelligent design by someone who knows their way around a working kitchen. And a pair of french windows to the rear mean it's always connected to the terrace and garden behind. The dining area is open plan to the side, next to a further wood burner, and there theres a further glazed door out to the garden. The two rooms together are perfect for family life and entertaining,

As if the kitchen was not enough, the utility room to the side offers yet more storage and another sink, in addition to plumbing that allows the washing machine, drier etc to be kept away from the kitchen. And in a thoughtful touch, the stone of the original outside wall plus the window (opening top the hallway) are retained.

The last of the downstairs spaces (inside - more of the office later) is intelligently and purposely designed for flexibility of use. A very smart en-suite shower room has been fitted to one side, allowing this room to be an annex bedroom for granny, teenager, or even Air BnB. The living room itself is extremely light as the pitched ceiling contains a couple of roof light windows in addition to which wide bi-folding glazed doors open onto the terrace behind with almost no step between the two. It's a wonderful room regardless of whatever use you need it to perform.

At the top of the stairs an elegant landing with a high ceiling heads off to all the bedrooms. At the front, the first of the three doubles on this floor is welcoming with good proportions that are further flattered by the vaulted ceiling overhead. From here the view over the front garden also takes in the sleepy lane beyond. Next door, another double this time retains the original Victorian iron fireplace, a lovely feature so often lost over the years. Again, the proportions are generous but feel even more so as the vaulted ceiling above flatters the feeling of space further. And for the first time we see an elevated view across the wonderful gardens to the open land behind.

Back to the hall and the main bathroom sits towards the rear. Sharing a similar decor identity to the en-suite downstairs, its extremely elegant and beautifully presented, this time with a bath as well as a shower overhead. And as elsewhere, it's the little touches that are so welcoming - spot the vanity unit handles... At the end of the hall the main bedroom is a the star of the show. The vaulted ceiling and the french windows to the rear perfectly frame the view behind, with the delicious, landscaped garden widening beneath you, beyond which is open pasture. It's a wonderful room that's well proportioned and also very practical, with a bank of storage cupboards and wardrobes covering one wall.

Outside, at the front the garden is enclosed by pretty stone walls, with a pair of wrought iron gates opening in off the lane. Borders running round three sides are immaculately maintained with a wide array of pretty plants including lavender and daisies to name just a few. The tarmac driveway runs deep down the side of the house, providing easily space for three cars (and wiring for an EV charger), with ample extra parking unrestricted on the lane outside. Behind it the path to the side of the house leads down to the garden beyond. Behind the house, the terrace runs the full width, deliberately looking to integrate the house and garden so entertaining and outdoor life are maximised. The outside office sits just off to the left, and it's a large, insulated room presented to the same high standard as everywhere else hence a really lovely place to work.

And beyond, the garden widens out to a degree you really would not expect from the frontage. An immaculate lawn runs for some distance, continuing behind the primary school land to the right and culminating in a large shed/ summer house. Various landscaped borders and planters host all manner of trees, shrubs and flowers, in addition to which the vendors have established various lovely, sunny spots for seating. But while it's landscaped, the feeling is relaxed, mature, very natural, making it a very peaceful place to be. And the land behind is pony pasture (complete with timber stable that you can see off to the right hand side) hence the outlook is deliciously rural.
