The Harrow
Originally dating from the 17th Century, The Harrow is believed to have been an ale-house and the well-proportioned rooms retain many period features. The house, with frontage to North Street is deceptively spacious with the main rooms arranged to take advantage of the large and established gardens.

The property has been in the same ownership for over 30 years and has great potential for updating.

On entering The Harrow from North Street is a spacious and impressive double height entrance hall filled with natural light and featuring an elegant open staircase leading to a galleried half landing. Through the entrance hall is the large, bright, main drawing room; a tranquil space with fireplace featuring marble hearth and surround, set in moulded timber mantle and supports. Large double, glazed doors lead out to the terrace and sunny garden beyond. There are three further reception rooms, all with fireplaces and exposed beams. The kitchen features an oil fired aga, electric oven and hob with cabinets and built in cupboards. Above the drawing room, is the self-contained main suite, comprised of bedroom, bathroom and walk in wardrobe. The bedroom is a charming, generous and bright room with railed balcony accessed by glazed doors, overlooking the idyllic private garden with glimpses of Cowdray Ruins and causeway beyond.

A second staircase also leads from the kitchen to the first floor. The first floor is comprised of bedrooms two, three and four, featuring built in wardrobes and charming window seats. Bedroom two has an en suite bathroom and bedrooms three and four wash basins. There is a further family bathroom and separate WC. Of note is an elegant arched window at the end of the first floor corridor allowing for plenty of natural light.

A tucked away staircase leads to the second floor comprised of bedroom five and a very generous attic space. Finally, above this, the accommodation is completed on the third floor with bedroom six, a large yet cosy room in the eaves with the best views to Cowdray Ruins.

Harrow Cottage
Converted in the 1970’s from a former Coach House and recently redecorated, the cottage enjoys a particularly tranquil position set back from the road and at the bottom of the garden. Held in a separate title as a stand alone additional dwelling, it comprises an entrance hall with downstairs cloakroom, leading on to the galley kitchen featuring pine units under laminate work tops and matching wall units, electric cooker and a stainless steel sink. The well proportioned, light living room features a fireplace and parquet floor. Large glazed doors lead directly to the garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms, overlooking the garden and a family bathroom, and generous storage can be found in the hatch on the stairway. There is also a small wine cellar.

Gardens and Grounds
Extending to approximately a third of an acre comprising cobbled access, turning area and parking space, The Harrow benefits from a substantially walled garden and cottage garden. The main garden is sheltered, and very private, it is laid mainly to lawn and features mature shrubs with two particularly lovely magnolia trees.

The Location
The Harrow is situated in the centre of Midhurst at the heart of the South Downs National Park. Midhurst provides for most everyday needs, whilst Guildford in Surrey and the Cathedral city of Chichester, both with renowned Theatres, are within easy reach and have more extensive shopping and leisure facilities. The A3 provides fast access to London, the motorway network, Gatwick, Heathrow and Southampton airports, whilst the mainline station at Haslemere provides a fast service to London Waterloo.

Midhurst and the surrounding area have much to offer with Polo at Cowdray Park, racing at Goodwood and Fontwell, golf at Cowdray Park, Goodwood, Pulborough and Liphook, motor racing at the Goodwood circuit and sailing out of Chichester Harbour and other centres along the South Coast. There are many footpaths and bridleways in the area for walking and riding.
