History

We understand that Barnham Windmill was built in 1829 and originally known as Feaver's Mill. It was completely re-fitted by J W Holloway, a Shoreham millwright, in 1890 and was powered by wind until the early 1920's, when it was converted to engine power, which then ran until 1963.

The mill was used by the army during World War II as an observation post, notifying RAF Tangmere of approaching enemy aircraft.

In 2008 Arun District Council gave listed planning consent for the conversion of the mill and ancillary mill buildings. The developer carefully restored the machinery, which can be seen as part of the fabric of the mill itself.
