House For Sale £900,000
Long Street, Sherborne, DT9

Description
The Stone House is set back from the road and approached via a gravelled driveway which leads you into a recently paved courtyard, with a garage to the side and parking for several cars to the front. From the front door, the entrance hall leads seamlessly through to the centre of the house with its staircase that rises up to let the light stream in, creating an excellent first impression. The doors from this central hallway lead into the well-proportioned sitting room which extends into a square bay at the rear with large sliding doors opening out onto the south facing terrace and garden for those warmer days. A fireplace with mantel, surround and inset gas fire ensures that this is a particularly cosy spot and an excellent room for entertaining at all times of the year. Also accessed from the entrance hall is a study and conveniently positioned cloakroom. The dining room is open plan to the sitting room, with space for a good size table and chairs and windows that overlook the lovely gardens to the rear. The kitchen, whilst needing some modernisation, is spacious and well equipped with fitted wooden base and wall units, 2 oven AGA (green), electric oven and hob and space and connection for a fridge and dishwasher. In addition, a back door provides access to the kitchen as well as a fabulous utility room with the large integrated garage beyond providing useful storage.
Stairs rise from the hall to the first floor where a large landing provides enough space perhaps for a desk and where some delightful views over the gardens can be enjoyed. Off this landing are four bedrooms, with the principal bedroom benefitting from an ensuite bathroom with bathtub, basin and WC. There are a further three bedrooms all with a lovely feel and varying aspects as well as a good sized family bathroom with bathtub, shower cubicle, basin and WC. The lasting impression of this excellent house is a place that is peaceful, notably bright and in a superb secluded position.

A feature of The Stone House is the delightful walled gardens to the rear. They are well stocked with a variety of herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees providing a high degree of privacy and seclusion. The garden is a real suntrap and it is a haven for many woodland and garden birds. The large paved terrace abutting the rear of the house provides excellent space for entertaining and from where one can enjoy the evening sun. A traditional timber shed and paved area can be found beyond the pergola and trellis towards the end of the garden.

The Stone House is conveniently tucked away along Long Street, one of Sherborne’s premier locations. Dominated by its ancient Abbey and school, Sherborne is arguably the most attractive town in Dorset. Numerous musical and cultural events occur throughout the year and there is a superb range of traditional shops and boutiques. The two castles – one of which was home to Sir Walter Raleigh – reflect the historic nature of the town, the centre of which is a designated Conservation Area in which a policy of strict planning control operates to preserve its special character. West Dorset is well known for its unspoilt landscape and there are many pretty villages and countryside walks nearby. The Jurassic coast is a mere twenty miles away at Weymouth. This stretch of coastline, from Portland to Lyme Regis, with its spectacular cliffs, has recently been designated a World Heritage Site. Communications to this part of the country are excellent. From Sherborne there is a regular train service to London Waterloo in about 2 hours 15 minutes; Sherborne station is within walking distance. The A303 (linking with the M3) is a dual carriageway thus putting London within easy reach.

SPORTING AND RECREATION
The area is well known for its beauty and there is a network of bridleways and footpaths which cross the countryside making it ideal for walking, bicycling and riding. Water sports can be found at Sutton Bingham Reservoir (near Yeovil) or on the south coast and racing at Wincanton, Salisbury, Bath or Exeter. Golf at various courses including Yeovil, Sherborne and Dorchester.

EDUCATION
The area is noted for its independent school with Leweston, Sherborne Boys, Sherborne Girls, Sherborne Prep, Perrott Hill, Hazlegrove and Millfield all within easy reach. The Gryphon secondary school is highly rated and very easily accessible.
