About the area
Nightingale Cottage is located in idyllic countryside just outside the village of South Barrow. South Barrow is a small village, conveniently located just 2 miles from the Sparkford connection of the A303. The nearest town is Castle Cary. Castle Cary is described by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, the eminent architectural historian, as Somerset's prettiest town, set in beautiful unspoilt countryside. The town is characterised by period buildings constructed of the distinctive honey coloured stone for which the area is well known. It remains a delightful small market town with a number of traditional shops and boutiques within the Conservation Area in which a policy of strict planning control operates to prevent inappropriate development. These shops cater for most everyday needs whilst Shaftesbury, Glastonbury, Street, Wells, Frome, Wincanton, Sherborne and Yeovil are all close by and Salisbury, Taunton, Bath and Bristol are in easy driving distance.

*
On the outskirts of Castle Cary is the railway station with its direct line to Paddington and the A303 road link is a few miles south. There are excellent state schools in the area - Ansford Academy boasts excellent exam grades and independent schools include the Sherborne and Bruton schools, Millfield, Wells Cathedral, Hazelgrove, Port Regis and St. Mary's Shaftesbury.

Accommodation
The cottage was extended by the previous owners with great thought to ensure the main living rooms and bedrooms enjoy the stunning south westerly views. Further improvements have been made by the current owners including the addition of the studio at the bottom of the garden and pretty railings along the path at the front of the house. From the main parking area, a path leads through the garden up to the kitchen patio doors. The kitchen is large enough for a breakfast table in the centre of the room and also has plenty of worktop space surrounding the electric range cooker. The french doors open straight out to the seating terrace which faces due south, perfect for eating outside in the warmer months. Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining room which is a comfortable reception room with a ceiling beam, the main front door and an excellent view.

*
The sitting room has a lovely dual aspect which allows light to flood in. There is also a fireplace with an inset wood burning stove and a pretty window seat. The utility has space for a fridge freezer, plumbing for a washing machine, further storage space and an another outside door. There is also a cloakroom and a rear hallway with a door leading out to the side garden. Leading upstairs are the four bedrooms and the family bathroom. All four bedrooms enjoy the incredible view and three of which are comfortable double rooms. The master bedroom is a vast, well proportioned with with an en-suite bathroom plus a walk in wardrobe. The family shower room has a shower, basin and w/c. Off the landing is a glass door which leads out to a balcony area to the north of the house. This is perfectly sheltered and it's elevated position really makes the most of the truly beautiful view.

Outside
Either side of the house are two separate gardens, one of which is well tended and laid to lawn, the other is full of mature trees and perfect for wildlife. The lawn of the main garden leads up to a patio immediately outside the kitchen. This is perfectly situated for the sunshine, facing due south. At the end of the lawn is a studio which opens a whole world of possibilities from further accommodation to a home office subject to all the necessary consents. Theres plenty of parking in two separate areas, one in the carport to the left hand side of the house and several further spaces within the gated driveway on the other side.
