It is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Wichelmesham”. Throughout its history, Wittersham has been primarily an agricultural community known for its historic buildings and landmarks. St. John the Baptist Church, dating back to the 13th century, is one of the prominent landmarks in the village. Additionally, there are several old timber-framed houses and cottages that add to the village's charm. The village has a small, close-knit community with amenities such as a primary school, a village hall, a pub, and a post office, catering to the needs of its residents.
