This is the spot where Alice in Wonderland was invented by Lewis Carroll. On Folly Bridge, the 13th century philosopher and alchemist Roger Bacon had a tower. From the roof, the River Thames and the dreaming spires of the city spread out before you.

Folly Bridge House has been beautifully restored by a potter and a photographer. It now holds their collection of modern art and ceramics for guests' enjoyment.

The house has seven studios, each with its own double bed, dining and kitchen area equipped with the elegant necessities of city living, including superfast fibre optic broadband and TV/DVDs. It is perfect for groups of friends or colleagues or families seeking the epicentre of the city and wanting something different. Only five minutes walk from the top of the High Street, the colleges and shops, Folly Bridge House lets you be in the bright lights in a moment and yet return to the tranquillity of the river.

All studios have huge windows on two sides giving bright views of river life on both sides of Folly Island. Set back from the road and with new double glazing, they are well insulated and quiet.

Three studios have ensuite bathrooms. There are two further bathrooms, one is a funky wetroom with a quirky stained glass window. You can stand under the rain shower and spy on the boats gliding down the river below.

Tables and chairs on the river bank allows guests to enjoy the boats and the birdlife when the sun shines. There is CCTV monitored parking for six cars at extra charge.

Just across the courtyard is one of Oxford's most fashionable eating places, the Folly, which provides elegant riverside dining. A discount is offered to guests at Folly Bridge House and dinner can be brought to the house at no extra charge.
